Growing up in Senegal, Massamba learned and mastered the tama, also known as the talking drum and co-founded The Senegal-America Project and Daande Lenol Orchestra. For the past 20 years, he has introduced the traditions of his Wolof culture into contemporary music, which has reflected the ancient origins of the tama and the environment of Dakar.

As the lead drummer in Baaba’s band, he has performed at the 2012 London Olympics, Mandela Day at Radio City Music Hall, and The 2004 Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony. Massamba has also performed and recorded with artists like Carlos Santana, James Brown, and Stevie wonder and is most recently known for his soundtrack from Marvel’s, Black Panther.
