Cypher CURE is a Portland-based group of artists and educators who utilize the “cypher” (circle) tradition of hip-hop culture, as a catalyst for empowerment, self-expression, healing and building community.
We provide a safe and supportive environment for:
Freestyle cyphers and talking circles. Cypher is a term for improvised freestyle rapping in a circle to speak one’s truth through sharing knowledge and stories in a positive, and supportive environment.
Community gatherings and youth showcases. A monthly theme-based celebration where local artists spread messages and youth talent perform and receive recognition and support from the community.
Experiences in nature, where participants can reflect on life, realign, and remember being part of the human experience. Activities include: finding a personal or group sit-spot, writing, talking/drum circle, fire-making and storytelling.
