Who are we?
Keys, Beats, Bars is an arts-integrated, culturally responsive, and trauma informed community project providing audiovisual and holistic music programming for justice-involved, incarcerated, and marginalized youth in the state of Oregon.
Our Why
On any given day, roughly 47,000 young people are incarcerated in the U.S., and 73% are arrested for non-violent offenses. In Oregon, young people of color are disproportionately incarcerated 2:1 compared to the rest of the population.
We tap into music and creativity as powerful agents of change and healing - for both incarcerated individuals and the wider community.
The ultimate goal of Keys, Beats, Bars is to provide youth in detention with creative avenues that help them amplify their voices and provide them with access to a creative community that will support their musical goals, boosting their initiative and reducing the risk of recidivism.
Upcoming events
KBB works to produce skill and community-building events that highlight diverse musical & cultural traditions, feature local talent, and give youth opportunities to expand their musical horizons.
